The mission of the Federal Statistical Office is to provide and disseminate statistical information. This information must be objective, independent and of high quality. It is available to all: politicians, administration, business and industry, science and citizens. The Federal Statistics Act defines the responsibilities of the Federal Statistical Office.

The international organisations (custodian agencies) that are responsible for the respective SDG-indicator publish methodical explanations for the indicator - the so-called global metadata.
